Residential Capacity is the city’s estimate of how many new homes can be built in the future. It as the city’s housing potential.
Current Reality: San José expects its population to grow, but there is not enough land planned to meet current housing needs. Additionally, a new state law (SB 79) allows more housing to be built near major transit stops by setting minimum standards that overrides San Jose's local zoning.
City's Goal: Make room for all current and future San José residents by increasing residential capacity by up to 60,000 units, helping to make our City affordable for all.

PART 2: PRIORITY AREAS FOR GROWTH
The City is looking to increase residential capacity in portions of The Alameda and Winchester Blvd corridors. These areas are currently planned for shops and office, and the City is considering allowing more housing. These areas are being prioritized for growth in part because they are located near major bus lines, which can support additional housing.
What do you think City staff should prioritize when planning for more homes on The Alameda and Winchester Blvd?
